Thermal Warehouse Curtains for Seasonal Demand

Advantages of Using Insulated Curtains

The seasons come and go, but the demand for thermal warehouse curtains remains the same – only the uses and applications for the insulated walls change. An insulated warehouse curtain that was used to keep extremely cold temperatures out and the comfortably warm heating within a workspace now can be designed to control several different temperature zones within a large facility.

Mother’s Day season is approaching

As the weather gets warmer, Mother’s day comes closer and the demand for the “perfect floral arrangement,” the perfect cake, and the perfect box of chocolates increases exponentially. Companies and corporations prepare months in advance for this time of the year, making sure all necessary measures are considered in lieu of this important commemoration of mothers everywhere. This is where our insulated warehouse curtains come into play.

A flower production plant that grows and stores these mother’s day floral arrangements require a constant ambient temperature with little to no variation. In order to control the temperature of this area, our thermal industrial curtains can act as a thermal barrier between areas. The thermal insulation properties help maintain temperatures to the required degrees and remain constant to protect the longevity of the flowers. This is not only important to deliver the beautiful flowers at the right time, but helps to make the company more profitable.

Not all flowers should be stored at the same temperatures. More tropical arrangements may require a higher temperature, or even a higher humidity level for the proper, ideal floral storage area. AmCraft manufactures a thermal warehouse curtain wall that can be used as a wall to separate these areas or in a refrigeration unit to contain temperature requirements, when used with proper edge sealing techniques. Available in light, medium, and heavy insulation levels (each corresponding to a specific R-value level of insulation), our insulated warehouse dividers give you the flexibility to curtain off different areas to provide perfect temperature differentials to each storage area.

Memorial Day on the Grill…

Also as the weather gets warmer, the thought of outdoor grilling comes into season, as well. Hot dogs, burgers, chicken, and all various types of meats are generally stored in freezer and refrigeration units in preparation for Memorial Day festivities. A distribution company or meat packaging company would use AmCraft’s thermal industrial curtains in order to provide heavy insulation level for insulated warehouse curtain walls, which have R-values up to 27. These industrial rigid thermal walls provide maximum insulation values for freezer and refrigerated storage while maintaining a temperature division between two separate areas that is necessary to the specific refrigeration requirements of a multitude of products.

Benefits of Using Warehouse Curtains

Benefits of Using Warehouse Curtains

If you work in or manage a warehouse, you know that there can be difficulties regarding the amount of space within and how it is utilized.Thankfully, warehouse curtains are a highly effective way of using the space more efficiently – they can separate different departments, maintain employee productivity, limit noise pollution, and maintain temperature differences. If you’ve been having trouble with keeping your warehouse as highly functional as you prefer, think of the potential benefits that warehouse curtains can bring to your business.

Separating Different Departments

Warehouses are expansive spaces, usually dedicated to an entire company’s working process. Different departments, such as shipping, packaging, and office work, maybe required to utilize the same general space, which can be difficult if there aren’t adequate partitions. Further, undivided departments can cause overlap in work tasks and can also create mix-ups with products and other things. Separating different departments with warehouse curtains can boost organization and also keep people on task.

Maintaining Employee Productivity

Warehouse curtains are ideal for maintaining employee productivity, as well. When employees aren’t distracted by other departments interrupting their work, or when their department has the benefit of being surrounded by noise blocking curtains, they can focus on their own tasks. Warehouse curtains can be installed in custom sizes for optimal division, and the materials used to make these curtains are very durable and low maintenance. Even better, they can be moved, making them versatile enough for rearrangement, if necessary.

Limiting Warehouse Noise Pollution

Perhaps the most significant benefit of using warehouse curtains is their potential to limit noise pollution. There are some curtains that are designed specifically for noise reduction. AmCraft Manufacturing offers several types of sound reducing acoustic curtain solutions, including acoustic baffle systems, sound barrier wall panels, and noise control enclosure curtains. These solutions can be used in conjunction with each other to enhance the noise-reducing capabilities of our systems.

Maintaining Temperature Differences

Some industries use their warehouses for a variety of activities that require certain temperature ranges to be maintained. For example, product storage and pharmaceutical storage usually have temperature parameters that they need to follow to ensure quality and safety, and insulated curtains are a great way to corral a certain section of your warehouse to maintain a certain temperature within. This not only keeps your products in their best shape, but it can also lower your heating and cooling costs.

Industrial Curtain Walls for Auto Repair Shops

Industrial Curtain Walls for Auto Repair Shops

Auto repair shops are notoriously grungy – it’s not a lack of maintenance, but simply inherent in the line of work. With oil, grease, rubber, metal debris, and other messy materials, it’s unsurprising that auto repair shops can get a little dingy. But there are some effective ways to keep working conditions as safe and clean as possible. One option is to use

industrial curtain walls

. Curtains not only section off the interior of the shop, keeping jobs separate, but they have plenty of other benefits, as well.

Protect Body Shop Workers and Equipment

Using industrial curtain walls in an auto body shop can maintain safety on the premises. These curtains protect body shop workers from sparks, odors, paint overspray and solvents, dust, debris, and more. For instance, paint booth enclosures can be created using industrial curtains. They contain the paint and fumes so that they don’t go all over your shop. Aside from paint spray booth dividers, industrial curtain walls can be used to keep dust and water where they belong. Protecting both auto shop workers and the equipment within the shop are the best functions of curtain walls.

Custom-Sized, Easy to Install and Move

Industrial curtain walls are great for this sort of application and use due to their customizable options, such as the tracking size and the method of tracking installed. Additionally, they are easy to install and are movable, making them a flexible option to create work areas wherever you need them. AmCraft Manufacturing offers complete systems for setting up curtain walls, including track systems and curtain walls.

Whether you are interested in curtain walls for making paint spray booths, wash bays, car repair shop workspaces, or any other auto body shop needs, our products will fit your needs. Curtain edge options can increase the effectiveness of curtains depending on your needs, and we can also add any logos, lettering, or other graphics to your curtain walls. They can be printed directly onto the vinyl curtain material, but can also be sewn or welded onto the curtain. These durable easy to maintain curtains are an ideal choice; flame rated and HAZMAT safe, they help your shop comply with NESHAP regulations.

Differences Between Acoustic Curtain Panels

Differences Between Acoustic Curtain Panels

Acoustic industrial curtain panels are made to reduce noise and sound reflection between areas and/or within a large space. For example, they can be used to shield employees from loud machinery within a factory or reduce echo in a recreational venue. Sometimes, various options work together to provide industries optimal noise blocking and reverb reduction qualities. There are a few

different types of acoustic curtain panels

, so if you’re considering using them, it’s important to know the differences between the different types.

Noise Control Enclosure Curtains

Noise control curtains are fully enclosed systems for “roping off” sound and containing it within a certain area. They can be used to keep noise from entering of a workspace area, as well. They can be hung from the ceiling, on a track system, or directly onto the walls, and are available as stationary acoustic panels or retractable sound curtains. Retractable curtains allow the area to be opened up when the curtain is not in use, and closed for when the noise source requires containment. Users can employ one, two, or three existing walls for their noise control enclosure curtain system, or choose to utilize a freestanding system (limited heights available – contact us today for more information).

Acoustic Baffle Systems

Acoustic baffle systems are made to reduce the amount of echo and reverberation within a large space. Excessive noise can be a detriment to overall operations – audience comfort at an entertainment venue, worker productivity, and overall health, just to name a few. With hearing loss being one of the most frequently reported work injuries in the United States, it’s essential to corral high levels of noise to prevent things like headaches, high blood pressure, tinnitus, and other medical issues. Acoustic baffle systems are sound-absorbing, and help to reduce reverberations and sound reflection. They can be placed in multiple zones and configurations in an effort to redirect and absorb sound and echo. This is especially helpful for low frequency, high decibel sound sources, as they are the most difficult to reduce and the most common frequency/decibel combination across many industries.

Sound Barrier Wall Panels

While baffle systems are usually smaller and in multiple places, sound barrier wall panels are quickly assembled and provide complete walls for reducing noise from one area to the next. When AmCraft constructs sound barrier curtains, both sound-absorbing and sound-blocking technologies are used for optimal effectiveness. With proper application of sound barrier panels, it’s possible to lower the sound level to a comfortable noise level on the other side of the partition. AmCraft offers noise-reducing sound barriers in different construction types to provide different levels of noise control, based on your application and industry. Unlike acoustic baffle systems, which merely absorb the noise (in its most basic construction), sound barrier wall panels will absorb the sound wavelengths and greatly reduce the decibel level.

Best Uses for Light, Medium and Heavy Insulated Industrial Curtains

Best Uses for Light, Medium & Heavy Insulated Industrial Curtains

The versatility of

insulated industrial curtains

is such that many warehouses, businesses, and large scale facilities use them – there’s a good chance you have seen then before. Because of this versatility, it makes them a good choice for a wealth of different applications that require climate control, storage of temperature sensitive products, or other applications. There are different levels of insulation available – light, medium, and heavy. But if you don’t know which would be the best for your application, it’s easy to find out.

Light Insulation

Light insulation curtains are best for 10 to 15 degree temperature differentials – in other words, they’re best for separating areas that do not have a drastic difference in temperatures. Light insulation industrial curtains are commonly used for produce storage, heating or cooling zone barriers, dock separation, and climate-controlled storage. Though these are not as heavily insulated as other curtains, their effectiveness at stopping air movement is significant, with the proper edge sealing techniques / options utilized along with the insulated curtain system. Light insulation curtains have an R-value of R-4. R-value is the measure of heat resistance through a given material.

A single layer curtain will provide you with an R value of 1, yet will efficiently eliminate air flow when used with edge sealing options.

Medium Insulation

If you need a higher temperature differential for your insulated warehouse curtains, AmCraft’s medium insulation curtains are ideal. With R-values of R-8 to R-15, the insulation level is ideal for areas with a temperature differential of 15 to 25 degrees. Up to an R-value of 12, medium insulation curtains can be made in a retractable design, allowing for built-in temperature zoning flexibility – another key benefit of medium insulation curtains. Edge sealing is an important factor in the curtains’ effectiveness. A few of the most common uses for these products include pharmaceutical product storage, floral product storage, beverage distribution, and temperature sensitive products.

Heavy Insulation

Heavily insulated curtains have R-values of R-15 to R-27, and are anywhere from 2.5” to 4.5” thick. They provide up to 40 degrees of temperature differential, and are often used for cold storage applications, including non-frozen food storage, cooler separation, and other temperature sensitive food processing applications. The temperature separation range for AmCraft’s heavy insulation curtains is from 25 to 40 degrees difference, and when constructed with the proper thickness and edge sealing, the R-value of an industrial curtain can be a more effective insulation barrier than a permanently constructed wall. They are not retractable; however, they are moveable and reconfigurable, as needed.

Industrial Divider Curtains: Vision Panels

Industrial Divider Curtains: Vision Panels

When a business compartmentalizes different workstations within a larger area,

industrial divider curtains

with a vision panel included have a few additional benefits that help to perform the following functions:
  • Easy oversight of employees and/or operations
  • Standard clear vision panels accommodate the average line of sight
  • Allows natural light and/or light from other areas to enter a workspace
  • “Opens up” the work area while keeping operations in separate “rooms”
  • Industrial curtains with vision panels can be constructed to serve special requirements (food grade, auto body, etc.)

Turn On the “Light”

Not only can curtain dividers protect the interior structural integrity of a workspace, but can also allow natural light to enter an area that would, otherwise, be closed off by permanent, solid walls. Vision panels provide a flexible “window” that stretches the span of the industrial warehouse curtain, permitting light to pass through. The images below are from one of our customers that required separate, private wash bays for various types of vehicles. They wanted to protect the machinery, walls, windows, and built-in shelving units from power washing, maintain retractability, and also have the ability to maximize the use of natural light within each of the bays.

As the renowned American architect, Louis Kahn, once said, “A room is not a room without natural light.” A warehouse industrial curtain with a vision panel provides the ability to conserve energy by allowing sunlight to radiate through the industrial partition curtain.

Room with a View

AmCraft has an industrial warehouse curtain solution that also provides a clear vinyl vision panel within the warehouse curtain divider that will allow warehouse managers and production supervisors to maintain the ability to observe operations, react quickly to emergency safety situations, or manage productivity on an assembly line. Our flexible vision panels offer a clear view into the different areas, even when an area is fully enclosed.

The picture below illustrates an industrial curtain divider project with a vision panel. The customer is a vinyl fabric and plastics manufacturer who needed to confine a specific process within a warehouse curtain enclosure, but also maintain visual access into the area for supervision and worker safety. Our warehouse partition walls with a vision panel created a “room with a view” to provide a means to both contain and to observe the manufacturing process simultaneously.

Reducing Reverb in Recreational Venues

Reducing Reverb in Recreational Venues

If you look around your local health clubs, indoor pools, theaters, auditoriums, gymnasiums, or concert halls, you may notice panels and/or that are located sporadically across the venue – these are, more than likely, sound-absorbing wall panels, noise control curtains, and/or partitions.

If you listen closely at each of these venues, there may be a clamor of echoes which permeates throughout the large area. This “clamor” is called reverberation (or reverb), which consists of several different sounds bouncing off of reflective structural materials within a given area – sounds which have a different time and decay. Greater reverb is normally proportionate to the size of the venue. In most cases, the sound reverberation that occurs becomes an issue of comfort and audibility. A noise control curtain wall can cancel the noise considerably to absorb and block noise from going into different areas.

Reverberation explained

There is a direct signal that has a straight path to the listener. The early reflections take more time to travel to the listener, transmitting the same sound at a weaker decibel level and a later time – this description is called decay. The picture below shows three instances in which sound travels to the listener, all at different times. This causes the listener to hear the identical sound many times, creating an echo effect, known as reverberation.

Echo, echo, echo…

For a gymnasium, health club, or indoor pool, there are several hard, reflective surfaces in which sound can “bounce” in unpredictable directions. The audibility of PA speakers and personal conversations becomes very difficult to understand, as there are sounds traveling through the area. Sound-absorption wall panels can be mounted onto the ceiling, the walls, and from other structural entities to reduce noise caused by reverberant activity.

In concert halls, theaters, and auditoriums, there could be several sound sources that radiate sound energy, that when not properly absorbed, will cause a reverberated “chaos” that allows sound waves to travel to each member of the audience from all different angles. For most performances, direct sound signals are preferred. In this case, the sound-absorbing panels can be mounted onto each wall to minimize the number of sound reflections to each member of the audience. One can also utilize an acoustic industrial curtain to mount as the stage backdrop area, making sure the sound does not reflect off of the back wall of the stage. Additionally, in some performances, a venue may still require just a mild reduction of the reverberant noise, in which less noise control panels would be applied.

Noise control panels and acoustic industrial partitions can be used to make sure reverberant sound is either directed for optimal auditory needs (in a performance venue) or reverberant noise is canceled and/or reducedto a comfortable level for audiences. Whatever the case may be, AmCraft has a customized sound-absorbing panel solution that is dependent upon your needs. Why Should You Be Using Acoustic Curtains?

Why Should You Be Using Acoustic Curtains?

Keeping noise from permeating an entire space can seem like a tough thing to do, especially in industrial settings. Sure, industrial curtains can be installed, but unless they are

acoustic curtains,

they won’t do much about absorbing sound. There are a few reasons why acoustic curtains are great for these sorts of settings, and there are some areas where you may not even think of using acoustic curtains that could benefit from their presence.

Main Benefit of Using Acoustic Curtains

You may already be aware of OSHA regulations regarding employees being exposed to loud noises, but if not, it’s important to familiarize yourself with them so that your place of business is safe and legal for workers. Of course, one of the benefits of using acoustic curtain systems is that they create a sound barrier to the noise from polluting areas where the noise-making activity is not taking place. One way to check if noise levels are problematic is to simply observe workplace behavior. If noise levels are above 80 decibels (dB), people will have to speak very loudly to hear one another. From 85-90dB, people will have to shout, and at levels greater than 95dB, people have to move close together to hear each other speak at all. The main benefit of using acoustic curtains, of course, is to maintain a manageable, safe level of sound for workers.

Best Applications

The best applications for acoustic curtain panels include businesses where warehouse space is shared and one space is louder than another, or a place where loud construction is taking place, such as an office building. Acoustic sound-reduction curtains can be static or temporary, meaning you can install them as permanent fixtures if the noise will always be an issue, or you can install them for a short period of time and remove them when the sound issues have been resolved. Industrial acoustic panels are very versatile, even available in retractable models for temporarily retracting an otherwise permanent curtain.

How to Find the Best Curtain

There are different types of acoustic industrial curtains available, of course. You’ll need to assess a few things before you choose the type you want—for instance, the higher the noise level, the thicker your acoustic curtains will need to be. If you aren’t sure what the decibel level of your noise is, you can do a test and seek out a recommendation based on that level of noise. Of course, permanent structural changes in settings where the noise is constant are best, however, we know that’s not in everyone’s budget. Acoustic Curtains from AmCraft are a cost effective way to resolve excessive workplace noise for compliance to OSHA safety levels.

Call us today to learn more about the benefits and uses of acoustic curtains and our other industrial curtain walls.

Save Money By Using Insulated Industrial Curtains

Save Money By Using Insulated Industrial Curtains

If you work in a warehouse or factory that experiences variable temperatures due to the weather or the nature of the work being performed within, using

insulated curtains

could prove beneficial for your business, both in regards to comfort as well as your climate-control costs. There are several types of insulated curtains, however, so it’s important to assess your business’ individual needs before installing industrial curtains.

How Can Insulated Curtains Save Money?

Insulated curtain walls or panel systems help prevent condensation from humidity buildup, which can prevent the growth of mold—if condensation is prevented, bacteria won’t have a chance to grow in it. Furthermore, insulated dividers are great for controlling temperature variances for cold storage areas, such as warehouse separation, food processing plants, and loading docks—the industrial curtains provide a barrier for the two temperatures to stay separate, which will help your business save money on cooling. Energy costs can be reduced by isolating separate workspaces, and in just a short time, those energy cost savings will more than make up for the investment of the curtains. Not only can these panels separate temperature zones within a large space, but they can also create a barrier between the interior atmosphere and outside elements.

Benefits of Installing Curtain Panels

In addition to saving your business money on energy costs, insulated curtain walls can provide limited noise control as well. This is ideal for situations where processing machinery that requires a certain temperature is loud and is not required to be out in the open (for ventilation, for example). Insulated curtains can also be installed as permanent fixtures or temporary, retractable ones, depending on where they will be used. They are available in light insulation (softwall, 1” thick), medium insulation (softwall in 2” and 3” thickness, rigid wall in 4” thickness) , and heavy insulation (rigid wall in 2.5”, 3.5”, and 4.5” thickness), so you’ll have no trouble finding the right insulated curtain for your needs.

Some great locations for insulated curtains include:

  • Warehouses
  • Food processing plants
  • Walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Cold storage freezers

If you have questions about temperature-control curtains systems or noise-reducing insulated panels and whether they might be beneficial for your workspace, feel free to contact AmCraft anytime. We can help you decide what types of industrial curtains are right for your needs.
